UK regulations

The Government has committed to consulting on changing the batteries producer responsibility regime to ensure more portable batteries are collected for recycling.

BIPBA continues to engage with Government and industry stakeholders to ensure that any future system for collecting and recycling batteries is fit for purpose, drives greater circularity in the long term and best serves consumers and the environment.

European regulations

BIPBA supports the work of the Consumer Batteries Europe Association (EPBA). The EPBA is the leading European organisation representing the interests of:

  • Primary and rechargeable portable battery manufacturers
  • Industries using portable batteries in their products
  • Distributors of portable batteries active within the European Union and beyond

In general, we support the alignment of UK and EU product and packaging regulations since batteries are produced at scale and this enables the most efficient supply of batteries. This helps to ensure product choice for consumers and keeps consumer costs down.
